Georgia Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program

Georgia Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program

The purpose of the GA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GA-GWEP) is to improve the health and well-being of older Georgians, their families, and their communities.

This work would be in: 1) improving geriatric education of physicians, healthcare professionals, and their inter-professional teams; 2) engaging primary care teams in work re-design to allow better address of what matters to older patients; and 3) community level partnering to address the needs of seniors in rural and underserved communities.

GA’s 60+ population, one of the fastest growing in the country, will increase 65.8% between 2010 and 2030, rising to 20% of the population. The fastest growing sector, those 85+, is projected to increase 306.5% to 462,723 residents by 2050. GA is also very diverse: African-Americans constitute >30% of the state population, nearly 70% of the metro Atlanta population, and >20% of the 65+ population.
