Dr. Vaughan’s research focus is to improve the management of lower urinary tract symptoms in older adults and specifically in adults with Parkinson disease. Along with her research team, she demonstrated the feasibility and efficacy of pelvic floor muscle exercise-based behavioral therapy to treat urinary incontinence in older adults with Parkinson disease. Through the support of a VA career development award she is conducting a randomized controlled trial of exercise-based behavioral therapy for the treatment of urinary incontinence in the setting of Parkinson disease. She also seeks to understand cognitive factors that may influence the ability of adults with Parkinson’s disease to learn and implement exercise-based strategies to ameliorate symptoms of the disease.

Dr. Vaughan’s clinical practice is based at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and the Emory Clinic at Wesley Woods and the Emory Parkinson Comprehensive Care Clinic.

Dr. Vaughan teaches students, residents, and fellows through various programs at Emory School of Medicine.

She is a member of the American Geriatrics Society Research Committee.  She also serves on the Emory Department of Medicine Faculty Development Committee and is the faculty co-lead for the Research Community.  Dr. Vaughan serves as Associate Section Chief for Research in Geriatrics and Gerontology
